Join Friends of Taconic State Park for a very special Annual Meeting and Potluck Supper. Members will celebrate three important achievements: installation of interpretative signage on the Historic Heritage Trail; opening of the expanded Copake Iron Works Museum exhibit, and commencement of the Furnace Cornerstone Project.
Fred Sutherland, author of a masters’ thesis on the Copake Iron Works, is the featured speaker. An early bird tour of the museum exhibit begins at 5pm; dinner begins at 6pm. Guests are asked to bring a side dish, salad or dessert for the potluck supper; hotdogs and hamburgers will be served; BYOB.
After the lecture, we will switch from cultural history to natural history under the guidance of Brigette Zacharczenko, an entomology graduate student at the University of Connecticut and moth expert. As it gets dark, we will walk the trails to investigate what moths are attracted to bait and black light traps – all part of a global citizen science effort known as National Moth Week: Exploring Nighttime Nature.
RSVP (518-966-2730 or info@friendsoftsp.org) is required for dinner.
All events take place at the Copake Iron Works, adjacent to 33 Valley View Road in Copake Falls. All are invited and asked to bring a side dish, salad or dessert. RSVP required to 518-966-2730.
